Clinicians

Ashley O'Hearn, PsyD (She/Her)

Ashley O'Hearn

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. O'Hearn received a doctorate in clinical psychology from William James College located in Newton, MA. She completed an American Psychological Association (APA) internship at the University of Kansas where she received training in Cognitive Processing Therapy, AD/HD testing and diagnosing, as well as honed her training in psychodynamic therapy. Prior to this, she was supervised by Harvard affiliates and professors who taught at psychoanalytic institutes.

Dr. O'Hearn began an independent practice in 2022 and shortly after decided to join forces with Scott Smith, LMHC to establish Insights Psychological Services, PLLC. Her intention was to create a safe and supportive environment for both the clinical staff and clients. Thus, cultivating a conducive environment for self-reflection, learning, and growth.

Dr. O'Hearn utilizes a relational psychodynamic framework with integrative techniques. Meaning, relationships and life experiences that someone has had, shapes who they are today. Everyone has unique needs and thus Dr. O'Hearn will pull from other evidence-based therapies (e.g., DBT, CBT, CPT, and mindfulness and relaxation techniques) to tailor and provide specific, targeted treatments as well.

Dr. O'Hearn enjoys working with millennials ages 22 to 40 years old who are high-achieving college students, graduate students, early-career professionals, or professionals in the helping field. She specializes in helping individuals who experience symptoms of perfectionism, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem/lack of assertiveness, trauma, and/or relationship difficulties, or familial conflict. Her style is warm, personal, and attuned to what clients are feeling in order to help facilitate insight in the moment. Dr. O'Hearn is a big proponent of empowering her clients and helping them to gain assertiveness skills and boundary setting.

Scott Smith, LMHC (He/Him)

Scott Smith

Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Scott Smith received a Master of Arts from Assumption College in 2007, with a specialization in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults. Scott completed his internship at a top tier training site, The Bridge of Central Massachusetts, where he received additional intensive training in dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) for individuals and groups. Scott has decades of experience working in multiple agencies and group practices, helping individuals and couples who have a wide range of diagnoses.

In 2019, Scott began a solo practice focusing on couple therapy using emotional focus therapy (EFT). Scott realized he enjoys collaboration with other providers and decided to form Insights Psychological Services, PLLC with Ashley O'Hearn, Psy.D. to fulfill a dream as well as a need for the mental health community in Boston. Scott is excited about the prospects of clients having an authentic experience and clinicians being invested as much as the individuals are in their treatment.

Scott enjoys working with adult individuals and couples (ages 20's to 50's) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties. More specifically, Scott likes working with clients who want to gain awareness and insight surrounding their maladaptive behavioral patterns in order to promote change. Those who are in an existential crisis and seeking resolution, would likely be a good fit working with Scott.

In terms of helping individuals, Scott provides psychological counseling using a CBT framework through a relational lens. He puts emphasis on learning about his clients' lived experience, while also pushing for change by challenging negative held beliefs or schemata. Scott is sensitive to clients feeling uncomfortable sharing their vulnerabilities and uses validation and encouragement throughout the therapy process to help clients feel understood.

When working with couples, Scott uses EFT to help his clients identify the problematic dynamic that occurs in the relationship. He assists each individual of the partnership in identifying their emotional experience when a rupture has occurred as well as aids them in taking an empathetic stance with their partner in order to repair the injury. Additionally, Scott incorporates his DBT training to help couples better communicate to one another in an effective manner.

Stylistically, Scott also guides his clients through the entire therapy process to create safety so that clients are able to gradually be able to tolerate uncomfortable feelings. Scott provides his individual and couple clients emotional consulting meaning that he provides feedback on what clients might be doing behaviorally that once was helpful but now is potentially keeping them stuck and unable to move forward toward their life goals. He uses humor and irreverence as a great therapeutic tool.

Emma Cappadona, MA (She/Her)

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern

Emma earned her master’s degree in professional psychology from William James College in Newton, MA, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology and will be working under the supervision of Dr. O'Hearn from August 2025 to July 2026. She has trained in a variety of clinical settings, including partial hospitalization programs, community mental health centers, and private practices. These diverse experiences have shaped her appreciation for the complexity and uniqueness of each client’s journey.

Emma approaches therapy through a primarily psychodynamic and humanistic lens. She believes that while past experiences influence who we are, it is our values, goals, and aspirations that guide who we are becoming. Her work emphasizes the dynamic interplay between insight into the past and intention for the future. With this foundation, she integrates evidence-based treatments (e.g. CBT, DBT, ACT) to develop an individualized and responsive treatment plan for each client.

Emma has a passion for working with individuals and couples and enjoys supporting clients navigating issues of identity, human sexuality, mood and anxiety disorders, and other mental health diagnoses. She holds a special interest in the complexities of identity, intimacy, sexual dysfunction, erotic diversity, and non-traditional relationship structures. Emma offers a safe, affirming, and nonjudgmental space for clients exploring all aspects of identity, creating room for curiosity, healing, and self-discovery. She brings warmth, authenticity, and deep curiosity to the therapeutic space, aiming to help clients feel both seen and empowered as they move toward growth and healing.

Keith Wasserboehr, MA, CAGS, NCSP (He/Him)

Clinical Psychology Doctoral Intern

Keith Wasserboehr is a dedicated and compassionate clinician who brings a wealth of knowledge, training, and a collaborative spirit to Insights Psychological Services. Keith will be interning at the practice from August 2025 to July 2026, honing his clinical skills under the direct supervision of Dr. O'Hearn and clinical mentorship from Scott Smith, LMHC, further integrating expertise in psychodynamic and cognitive-

behavioral therapies.

Keith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Tufts University, building a strong

academic foundation. He continued his advanced education at William James College in Newton, MA, where he completed both a Master of Arts (MA) and a Certificate of Advanced

Graduate Study (CAGS) in School Psychology. This specialized training provides Keith with a unique understanding of child development, learning processes, and the systemic factors influencing well-being across the lifespan. He is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist

(NCSP) and has held this certification since 2020.

Prior to joining Insights Psychological Services, Keith gained valuable clinical experience in

diverse settings, including Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), McLean Hospital and public

schools throughout Massachusetts. These experiences provided exposure to varied populations and presenting concerns, enriching his comprehensive clinical perspective. Notably, Keith's internship experiences have been under the guidance of a psychodynamically trained supervisor,

emphasizing the profound importance of using oneself as a therapeutic tool—a philosophy that

highlights the power of the therapeutic relationship and the clinician's attuned presence.

Keith employs an integrative therapeutic approach, primarily drawing from Cognitive

Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy. This allows for a flexible and comprehensive treatment strategy, recognizing that while past experiences and relationships shape an individual, targeted, evidence-based CBT techniques can also provide immediate relief and foster new coping skills. He is committed to tailoring interventions to each client's unique wants and needs, ensuring a highly personalized and effective therapeutic journey. Keith believes that a client’s journey that led to therapy is uniquely theirs and their treatment should reflect that.

Keith enjoys working with a diverse range of adult clients, including parents, high-achieving professionals, and athletes. He is particularly adept at building warm, collaborative

relationships, working alongside clients to help them explore their inner worlds and develop

practical strategies for growth. Keith's dedication lies in providing a supportive space where

clients can reflect, learn, and gain the insight necessary to navigate life's challenges.
